South African Police Minister Bheki Cele says Bushiris Should Not Have Gotten Bail, Mzansi Reacts

South African Police Minister Bheki Cele recently shared his views on the Bushiris' escape to Malawi (their home country) after having been granted bail by the Pretoria Magistrate's Court last week. According to Cele, the controversial church leaders should never have received bail in the first place, which was granted at a collective R400 000 for the two of them. The couple is facing charges of theft, money laundering and fraud amounting to over R100 million.
Meanwhile, tweeps were left with a bitter taste in their mouths by the couple's escape. Many of them headed to social media to criticise the South African justice system and Minister Cele in particular.

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri says that he is fearful of his life and he is sure that he will not receive a fair trial in South Africa. Bushiri fled South Africa a few days after being granted bail and he told his supporters that he is a law-abiding citizen who had no intention of avoiding his trial.

During a Facebook live session on Saturday evening, Bushiri told his followers that many police officers attempted to extort money from him between 2017 and 2018.

The prophet said that the police officers threatened to arrest him and in his eyes that is worse than the money laundering charges against him. Bushiri claims that he was forced to send his kids to Malawi so that they could be safe.
