The government is understood to be contemplating the return of hard lockdown restrictions. This comes as the nation awaits a 'family meeting' with President Cyril Ramaphosa later this week.
Ramaphosa is set to address the nation this week and a report indicates that the news may be grim for SA.
1. Return to stricter lockdown may be on cards: Report
South Africa may be heading for a tightening of the current Level 1 lockdown restrictions when President Cyril Ramaphosa addresses the nation. Numerous government officials revealed to Bloomberg that the return of stricter regulations is currently being debated as the National Coronavirus Command Council gathers to discuss the nation's future.
Following this meeting, Cabinet will mull over the input of numerous experts, a meeting set to be held on Friday.
While cases haven't 'spiked' as yet, the statistics show that a slow but steady increase is indeed taking place. The Eastern Cape province is battling against the influx of infections. South Africans will need to wait until Ramaphosa's speech to gain more clarity on the situation, but the increasing number of countries imposing a second lockdown may help to sway the outcome.
