Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has warned that the festive season rush will not mean a reprive of Covid-19 restrictions.
This comes as large quantities of people are set to move over the South African border during the December period.

1. Motsoaledi's warning ahead of December rush People intending to cross over South African borders will still need to produce Covid-19 certificates despite the December rush.
Motsoaledi remains resolute on one of the restrictions put into place when travel out of the country was reopened:
"Covid-19 regulations still need to be followed. For the first time in December, with a large number of people going through the borders, we are going to be demanding Covid-19 certificates."
2. Mkhize on latest statistics Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has provided South Africans with the latest Covid-19 statistics in the country. In a statement issued by the Department of Health on Friday evening, Mkhize commented that:
"As of today, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases is 781 941 with 3 370 new cases identified since the last report."
In addition to the climb in infections, Mkhize confirmed the latest number of fatalities:
"Regrettably, we report a further 89 deaths today: Eastern Cape 55, Free State 19, Gauteng 3, KwaZulu Natal 5 and Western Cape 7. This brings the total to 21 378 deaths."
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed speculation over the accuracy of Gauteng's Covid-19 statistics. Commenting on the situation in a statement issued by the Department of Health, Mkhize noted that:
"As National Department of Health, we have identified that there is a need to reconcile data in Gauteng Province. We have brought this to the attention of the Province and they have indicated that they are in the process of harmonizing the data."
