Prophet Shepherd Bushiri says that he is fearful of his life and he is sure that he will not receive a fair trial in South Africa. Bushiri fled South Africa a few days after being granted bail and he told his supporters that he is a law-abiding citizen who had no intention of avoiding his trial.
During a Facebook live on Saturday evening, Bushiri told his followers that many police officers attempted to extort money from him between 2017 and 2018.
The prophet said that the police officers threatened to arrest him and in his eyes that is worse than the money laundering charges against him. Bushiri claims that he was forced to send his kids to Malawi so that they could be safe.
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri claims that he "fears for his life" and getting an unfair trial in South Africa.
Bushiri also claims that there have been various attempts to assassinate him, one of those was an incident that took place in Sandton for which he claims the police have still not made any arrests in connection to the matter. The prophet claimed that because he was arrested by white police officers and he is a black person, it would be highly unlikely that he would receive a fair trial. He said that he would present himself to the Malawian authorities to prove that he is not trying to evade justice.
“I believe in the justice system of South Africa and I believe that if independent investigators could be appointed I could recieve a fair trial,” he said.
The Bushiri's broke bail conditions and fleed Mzansi, heading for Malawi. Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary have pulled a fast one and fled Mzansi for Malawi and left South Africa gobsmacked. The pair had paid R200 000 in bail, the couple was granted their freedom on condition that they did not travel outside of South Africa, in fact, they were limited to only travelling in Gauteng and the North West province.
