Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni said on social media that the state needs to have stricter measures in place. He shared a story about how a man from the township Alexandra called him aside during a meeting telling him that they needed to do better.

Mboweni shared what the man said to him on his Twitter account:

"Babu Mboweni, tighten the state hand. It is a bit soft and nice. Squeeze! Let everybody feel the presence of state power and force."

The Minister of Finance said that he agrees with the old man. "We are too nice!" he added.

A few hours earlier, Mboweni reacted to the rumours that President Lazarus Chakwera helped Prophet Shepherd Bushiri skip the country.

"A whole Head of State smuggling a fugitive from justice? Tell me it’s fake news. Unbelievable! Must be fake. Has to be. People must not spread fake news," he said.

Tweeps started to drag the minister for his tweets and some were even calling for him to delete his comments. To which he responded:

"Don’t try tell me what to say or not say. This is a democracy. Hayibo! Why do you want me to delete my tweet about a fugitive from South African justice? How did he escape and make us look so bad?

Mboweni is standing his ground and is definitely being firm in the fact that South Africa needs to tighten up a bit in certain areas.
