Kaizer Chiefs are sweating on the fitness of right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie with Cameroon side PWD Bamenda.
Mphahlele suffered a hamstring injury and is in doubt for the return leg on Friday.
JUST ANOTHER HEADACHE FOR COACH GAVIN HUNT
The injury is just another headache for coach Gavin Hunt who is already juggling a thin squad this season.
“He has a hamstring strain and will be further assessed on Wednesday to ascertain the extent of the injury and his availability for the second leg,” Chiefs said in a statement.
Chiefs will take a crucial one-goal lead from the first leg into the second leg having defeated Bamenda courtesy of a goal from Erick Mathoho.
“Rama is a big problem for us, he did his hamstring or whatever he’s got. We won’t train with any intensity before the next game on Friday, that’s for sure. We’ll do recovery and just a little bit of work on who, how and what,” said Hunt.
“[We’ll have to see] who’s available, because it looks like we’ve got a few problems already with one or two players. I just hope it doesn’t affect our game [in the DStv Premiership against Black Leopards] for the following week, which is a bigger concern at this point in time."
Should Chiefs advance to the first round they will face Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto in a tough two-legged tie.
Kick-off for the second leg against PWD Bamenda – which will be played without fans as per CAF rules – is at 18:00 at the FNB Stadium on Friday, December 4.
