Cyril Ramaphosa may well read us the riot act with his address to the nation on Monday: Here's what time it starts, and you can also follow our live stream.

It’s here, folks. South Africa is in the grip of a second wave of COVID-19, and Cyril Ramaphosa has decided to speak ‘sooner rather than later’. The president, following much speculation this week, will address the nation on Monday night. Our family meeting will be broadcast via a live stream (featured below) – but what time will it all kick-off?

WHAT TIME WILL CYRIL RAMAPHOSA ADDRESS THE NATION ON MONDAY 14 DECEMBER?

Initially slated to take place on Sunday, the address has been pushed back by one day…

Ramaphosa has been refreshingly punctual during his televised addresses throughout lockdown, and we do not anticipate any delays this evening. However, an official time will only be announced on Monday. His speeches are never more than a few minutes past the scheduled start time, so once we have the time, make sure you’re ready and tuned in early doors.

[Stream will appear in ample time before 20:00 on Monday 14 December, depending on what time a feed is made available]

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS LATEST FAMILY MEETING…

South Africa’s COVID-19 cases are shooting up at an alarming rate, with around 8 000 new infections reported in the latest available 24-hour period. The second wave is well and truly upon us – and for many South Africans, tough restrictions are likely to be implemented. More hot-spots are likely to get the ‘Nelson Mandela Bay treatment’ this evening.

There are strong suggestions that Ramaphosa is set to announce closures at some of South Africa’s most popular beaches, after the KZN legislature revealed their fears about ‘Christmas congregations’ by the seaside. There are even whispers that stronger rules on alcohol sales could be implemented – but that’s likely to be for identified hot-spots only.

This might not be an easy watch on Monday evening – and you may need to hide behind a pillow for this one…
