Home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi is facing the wrath of the public who demand to know how Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary managed to leave South Africa. This had people questioning the security of South Africa's ports of entry and exit if wanted fugitives were able to come and go as they please. 
The Democratic Alliance were quick to hold Motsoaledi accountable for the couple's escape and many others followed suit.
The Sunday Times reported that the Bushiri's escape has made South Africa an international embarrassment and has angered President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Since the news broke that Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary had broken their bail conditions and fled to Malawi, the media have been reporting on it constantly. Questions have been asked as to why the Malawian government have done nothing in the face of the flagrant violation of the law.
It is quite simple, a country has to request a citizen's extradition and Malawi cannot simply send the Bushiri's back to South Africa. The Malawian government are waiting for the South African government to make a formal extradition request.
Malawi's minister of information, Gospel Kazako told eNCA that there was no way the president would have allowed that to happen. Last week, Bushiri and his wife were granted bail of R200 000 each and they have broken their bail conditions as they are not allowed to travel outside of South Africa.
The Sunday Times reported that the Bushiri's escape has made South Africa an international embarrassment and has angered President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“This is a serious indictment on the role of home affairs and border control to effectively police SA’s ports of entry and secure the movement of individuals to and from our country,” DA shadow minister of home affairs Angel Khanyile said.
The fact the they were able to leave South Africa after handing over their passports makes the matter worse.
“The fact that two individuals wanted for grave crimes have managed to flee our country so effortlessly is a slap in the face to the millions of SA citizens deserving of swift justice for this crime. There is evidently nothing stopping criminals from evading justice in SA by border-hopping when home affairs has no control over who enters and leaves our country.”

In other news, self-proclaimed prophet, Shepherd Bushiri wants the Malawian government to intervene in his case, but the country has distanced themselves from the matter. The Hawks are trying to find out how Bushiri managed to skip the country and Malawi's authorities are denying claims that Bushiri and his wife hitched a ride in President Lazarus Chakwera's plane.
