It has just been confirmed that Shepherd "Major 1" and his wife Mary Bushiri have been issued with an official warrant of arrest. The couple fled to Malawi, Shepherd's home country, only a week after receiving bail of a collective R400 000 for oth himself and his wife.
Taking to Facebook, the pair explained a few of the reasons why they had made the decision to go against their bail conditions and leave the country. According to Bushiri, he had feared for his life as well as that of his family. He had also said that he was avoiding threats and extortion from corrupt police officials who have allegedly tried to extort him before.
Meanwhile, the South African police force has issued an official arrant of arrest for the controversial couple after it was asked by the Malawian government to produce the necessary papers in order to allow the capture of Bushiri and his wife.
Self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri wants the Malawian government to intervene in his case, but the country has distanced themselves from the matter. The Hawks are trying to find out how Bushiri managed to skip the country and Malawi's authorities are denying claims that Bushiri and his wife hitched a ride in President Lazarus Chakwera's plane.
Malawi's minister of information, Gospel Kazako told eNCA that there was no way the president would have allowed that to happen. Last week, Bushiri and his wife were granted bail of R200 000 each and they have broken their bail conditions as they are not allowed to travel outside of South Africa.
Bushiri says that he fears for his safety in Mzansi and that is why is fled to Malawi:
“I am here in Malawi because I’m a citizen of this country. I have come to seek my government intervention over the following issues I’m facing in South Africa. I’m seeking my safety to be considered by the government of South Africa. I need to be assured of my safety," he said.
