Khanyi Mbau is one woman who knows what it is like to constantly be shaded but that doesn’t mean she has become complacent about it. Khanyi might have been able to conquer despite the opinions of others, however, it is not the same for some others.
Seeing the endless abuse that takes place on social media, Khanyi felt the need to come forward and address it. Not everyone is strong enough to handle what others say about them. People are falling into depression and some are even taking their own lives because of cyber-bullies – it needs to stop!
Taking to social media, Khanyi expressed how deeply disturbed she feels seeing all the nasty comments that fly around on social media and how they are affecting people’s lives. One particular level of abuse that has Khanyi shook is how men talk to women on social media. It is not okay!
“The level of abuse on Twitter is scary, I can only imagine what those without thick skin deal with. The most alarming part is that it’s the men that actually troll women and sexualise everything. Have men become this weak?!!
One social media user tried to tell Khanyi that women often look for attention on social media but then don’t like what they receive.
“When thirst traps are posted to lure the same men you're silent because the women who're posting at that time are benefiting from it. This is like you saying rich men lure young girls with money as if some aren't throwing themselves at them. Strange smh”
This boiled Khanyi’s blood. Khanyi let the social media user know that their post is the equivalent of a rapist saying a woman asked for it because of what she was wearing. This mentality needs to be shifted!
“Your statement is the same as a rapist saying she got raped because of how she was dressed!!”
Khanyi Mbau is one woman who knows what it is like to constantly be shaded but that does not mean she will stand for it. Something needs to change.
