Planning a car journey over Christmas? Well, if a road trip is on your radar, it's worth knowing what the busiest travel dates will be for December 2020.


South Africans planning to hit the road for their Christmas celebrations this year have been given something of a ‘cheat sheet’ from one of the busiest toll operators in the country. The predicted ‘worst dates and times’ to travel by car in December have been revealed – with five particular days on the calendar standing out above the rest.
WHAT ARE THE BUSIEST DAYS TO TRAVEL BY CAR IN DECEMBER?
Bakwena, who operate major gates on the N1 and N4 respectively, have shared data which analyses the volume of traffic on their highways. From previous years, forecasted travel arrangements, and several other factors, they have been able to pinpoint four days before Christmas – and the last day of the year – as the worst of the lot.
If possible, motorists are advised to avoid these dates if they’re planning a trip in December:

- BUSY VOLUMES OF TRAFFIC: Any time between 9:00 – 12:00
- LIGHTEST TRAFFIC FLOWS: Overnight journeys and early morning starts, from 21:00 – 9:00
