The drama between the families of the late Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo and Babes Wodumo continues. Following reports that Mampintsha’s mother was denied access to her son’s body in Westville, reports have now emerged that she was rushed to the hospital after collapsing.
It is no secret that Babes Wodumo’s and Mampintsha’s families have been at loggerheads for the longest time.
In the latest season of the couple’s reality show Uthando Lodumo, their families appeared to have let bygones be bygones, but following Mampintsha’s death, the drama is reportedly heating up again.
According to a recent report in the Daily Sun, Mampintsha’s family felt sidelined after the family of Babes said Mampintsha was recovering after suffering a stroke.
The gqom pioneer sadly died on Christmas eve at the age of 40, a few days after his record label announced that he had suffered a stroke. According to Ezivuthayo Emaputaland, Mampintsha’s mother Zama Gumede collapsed after not being included in her son’s funeral arrangements.
“Mampintsha’s mother reportedly collapsed when she saw the completion of the funeral plans without being informed. Mampintsha’s mother, Zama, suddenly fell down and was rushed to KwaMashu CHC by Ambulance. It is said that her heart was hurting after she saw on TV the funeral plans for her son were concluded and she suddenly collapsed. She asked why she was not involved,” wrote Ezivuthayo Emaputaland on Facebook.
Addressing the media in a joint family press briefing, Zandile Maphumulo, who is Mampintsha’s family spokesperson, shared an update on how Babes Wodumo is coping following the singer’s death.
“With regards to Babes, as I have said before when you lose your loved one, it is not easy. For the past two days, she was not okay but we are a family that believes in God, we pray for everything, and the prayers of both families, the Simelane’s and the Maphumulo’s, have helped and sustained her.”
“They were very close, they were friends and they were lovers, it was husband and wife.” Meanwhile, the family also announced that Mampintsha’s life will be celebrated on Thursday in Durban Central, and added that his funeral would take place on Friday. The family said exact details would be shared in due course.
“The funeral will be on Friday, we are still sourcing the venue with the help of the government, which has come on board to assist us as we all know that this was an icon in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
“We are planning to have the memorial service on Thursday at the ECC church, Pastor Vusi Dube’s church, and will be starting at 11am. Everyone is welcome to come to that memorial service – the public is also welcome because we are celebrating the life of Mampintsha,” said Babes Wodumo’s father.
